Rhema and Logos are ONE!

February 14, 2019

I’m going to go WAY out on a limb right now with this. Go through the New Testament (KJV because of the thoroughness of concordance) and mark with different colors every time the Greek word LOGOS appears and every time the word RHEMA appears. Then look at the context. Then look at how many times the two words are used interchangeably to say the exact same thing. If you do this, it will help free you from that damnable doctrine from hell that there is a dichotomy between logos and rhema and that God has to give you a “rhema word” before you can have faith for what you need from Him and what He says in the Bible is already yours. When somebody tells me, “Of course it’s in the Bible but you need a ‘rhema word”, I want to tell them that’s what the serpent said to Eve. To receive with your personal faith, you have to choose it and take it and talk and act like it’s true. You can have every prophet on every tv channel past present or future, give you rhemas claimas shaman poobahs or whatever but if you don’t take it for yourself and by choice act on it like God told you the truth when He put it in the Bible, you still aint gonna get it. God doesn’t have to say something more than once for it to be true and if He says in the Bible that it’s for you, choose to take it with your faith and line yourself up like it’s true. That rhema vs. logos nonsense has two sources, one in the old Pentecostal days when it was thought the power of God was released ONLY by the operation of the power gifts, which require the cooperation of the revelation gifts, that they mis stated as “rhema”. Incidentally, the revelation gifts, Word of Wisdom and Word of Knowledge both use the Greek word logos. Are you getting it now? The other source of that nonsense is a tragic misinterpretation of Romans 10:17, particularly in the modern Bible Translations that are based on the NU manuscripts rather than the Textus Receptus on which the KJV, NKJV and MEV are based. So if you are caught up in the notion that to have faith for something you have to have a specially anointed jab in the gizzard that some call rhema word, do that study. It will really help you and strengthen your faith in the Word. If you’ve never heard of that garbage doctrine, blessed are ye. Having said that, there are those I love and respect to the moon and back, who say that rhema is a word spoken specifically to you. That is harmless except to the extent that it reinforces the goofy stuff I just talked about. What they mean is “the inward witness, still small voice, discerning of spirits, word of wisdom, word of knowledge are words spoken by God directly to you” RHEMA in their context actually means the declared Word. Notice in 1 Timothy 4:1 Paul says, “The Spirit speaks expressly...”. He didn’t say I got a rhema word for y’all. Go do the study. It will bless you.
